AT-KABUL: At least two passengers were killed and twenty-seven others received injuries when two passenger buses overturned from road at the Salang Pass in north of Kabul, official sources said on Wednesday.
Spokesman to Disaster Management Minister, Omar Mohammadi, said that the buses overturned from the road due to heavy snowfall and careless driving of the drivers.
The incident took place in northern Salang Pass in Pul-e-Khaki area.
The passengers have already been shifted to the nearby medical centers for treatment.
In-Charge of the Salang Pass Maintenance Department, Rajab Neshat, said that the highway is closed for traffic since 1:30 am (Wednesday) and would be reopened after the situation get normal.
The Salang Pass has witnessed deadly avalanches and road accidents in the past several years during the winter season due to heavy snowfall and rains.
Salang Pass with the lowest temperature in the region is the risky part of Kabul-Mazar-e-Sharif Highway.
The highway connects capital Kabul to north, northwestern and northeastern provinces.
