AT-KABUL: Four Afghan policemen were killed and seven others were injured when one of their colleagues opened fire on them, officials said on Thursday.
The shootout took place in a remote check post in Zirai district of southern Kandahar province late on Wednesday night, Kandahar police spokesman, Ziaurahman Durani told Afghanistan Times.
The attacker was shot dead by another officer before to flee from the area.
The injured were under treatment in a nearby hospital he said.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack saying their two infiltrators killed 15 policemen and safely returned back to Taliban.
The attack is the second in past two months after a Taliban linked policeman killed his 10 colleagues in neighboring Uruzgan in late January.
