By Akhtar M. Nikzad-KABUL: The Afghan National Army would continue operations in the Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahabuddin areas of Baghlan province to eliminate all the insurgents, a security official said Saturday.
Dawlat Waziri, a spokesman for the defense ministry told newsmen that clearing operations against Taliban insurgents in Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-d-Shahabuddin areas were ongoing in which “the enemies” suffered heavy casualties.
“Till quite elimination of Taliban insurgents and reconnection of power cables, we would not cease our clearing operations in the area” Waziri said.
He added that 154 insurgents had been killed,157 injured and four others arrested to date by the Afghan National Army.
He pointed out that Taliban fighters use the civilian houses as hideouts and defensive wall against Afghan National Security Forces. Therefore, the Afghan National Security Forces cannot use the heavy weapons to clear the areas soon of the insurgents.
“We do very carefully to prevent civilian casualties in the conflict. We don’t want to use heavy weapons to destroy the people’s houses,” he said.
The Taliban insurgents started attacks in the Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahabuddin areas of Baghlan province and destroyed several power pillars some three weeks ago.
Kabul residents live in dark for more than two weeks and face with a lot of problems.
