AT-KABUL: A former minister and critical politician accused the government of “violating the constitution and deceiving people”, demanding for a prematurely presidential election.
“We demand for the early presidential election to remove the distance between government and the nation,” said the two-time minister Anwarul Haq Ahadi, who leads a newly formed political party National Front for New Afghanistan.
Ahadi has served as finance and commerce minister under then president Hamid Karzai. This is the second time that he suggests for an early presidential election. He had earlier accused the government of lacking legitimacy.
Earlier, a US official had warned the Afghan government was at the risk of a political collapse this year.
He supported the ongoing peace process, but said the government was “too optimistic” to the process.
“We support the peace talks, but the government is hiding the results of the talks from the people,” he addressed a gathering Friday in Kabul.
A four-nation group is trying to make a roadmap to encourage Taliban militants for a face to face talk with Kabul.
Ahadi was backing President Ashraf Ghani at the 2014 controversial presidential election, but got distance of the National Unity Government formed at a power-sharing political agreement between Ghani and chief executive Abdullah Abdullah.
