AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Helmand Provincial Council members along with a number of civil society activists said that the Taliban’s Quetta Shura was leading the war in Musa Qala district of southern Helmand province. According to them a number of Quetta Shura fighters have find foothold in the district and they were engaged in fight against the Afghan National Security Forces. Moreover, they called on the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to prevent the influx of the Quetta Shura Taliban in the district.
“If the government cannot address this challenge then Helmand will have a tough war ahead during this spring season,” Deputy Chairman of the Helmand provincial council, Majid Akhundzada, was quoted by TOLONews, as saying.
Secretary of the council, Ataullah Afghan also expressed concern and said that a number of Taliban fighters of Quetta Shura have find their way to the district and fueling war there.
At the same time, civil society activists also pointed out that how the Quetta Shura members find their way to the district.
“We are concerned about activities of Quetta Shura in Musa Qala and we want to know how they made it to the district,” TOLOnews quoted Mirza Mohammad Haqparast, a civil society activist in Helmand.
Another civil activist, Sardar Mohammad Hamdard, asked the government to spare no efforts aimed at stopping the flood of Quetta Shura members to the district.
According to members of Helmand provincial council, Taliban has control over large areas of the district.
