AT-KABUL: Taliban released the 11 civilians they had taken hostage in the northern Sar-e-Pul province, an official said Saturday.
Taliban dragged these people out of a bus and took them last week in the Sayyad district. They were travelling to the provincial capital which is also called Sar-e-Pul.
“They were freed after the tribal elders and religious scholars called for their release,” provincial spokesman Zabihullah Amani said.
“They all are ordinary civilians without having any posts in the government.”
Taliban did not comment on the matter, but a person allegedly affiliated with the insurgents claimed that the passengers were abducted because of having relation with the government and taking part in the attacks against the militants.
Taliban militants often abduct civilians with charges that they are government servants or service members of the security forces.
