AT-KABUL: Fifty-two passengers died Sunday and 73 others wounded in a traffic accident on the Kandahar-Kabul highway in Ghazni province, police and health officials said.
Two busses and an oil tanker burst into flames in a head-on collision in Bozak area of the Muqur district, provincial spokesman Jawid Salangi told Afghanistan Times via phone.
However, conflicting reports emerged about the casualties. “The latest reports say that 73 passengers have died and 60 others have been wounded,” Ismael Kawoosi, spokesman for the public health ministry said. But, the local officials said that 52 people died and 73 injured in the accident.
Kawoosi added that women and children were among the dead and wounded passengers.
“The tanker was full of fuel and got fire after accident,” he said.
The condition of the injured was reported well by the hospital, according to Salangi.
He called carelessness and recklessness of drivers as the main factor behind the accident, saying that further inquiry is going on the case.
