AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 34 policemen and a local police commander along with their weapons and ammunition, defected to Taliban in the Do Laina district of western Ghor province, an official said Tuesday.
“Afghan Local Police Commander Ziaul Haq had joined the Taliban with 29 of his comrades and four national police officers in Khak Yarak locality, some 40 kilometers southwest of the district center,” Mohammad Hassain Danishyar, district administrative chief, quoted by Pajhwok Afghan News, as saying.
They took 30 AK-47 assault rifles, three machine guns, one anti-aircraft gun, one mortar and a large quantity of other weapons to the Taliban, the source added.
According to the source, despite several phone calls, the agency failed to reach Ghor governor Ghulam Naser Khazeh in order to have his comments into the matter.
