By Akhtar M. Nikzad-KABUL: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah asked the armed opposition groups to put their guns down and join the peace negotiation with the government.
“The armed insurgents should stop hostility with people and join in peaceful live with the government,” Abdullah said, without clarifying the groups.
Earlier, President Ashraf Ghani had said that Taliban militants would face serious actions and their prisoners would be executed. Six of Taliban fighters were hanged Sunday in Kabul, following Ghani’s promise.
He however, stressed that the security forces were obligated to suppress the militants and enemies who fight against security of the nation.
“At first, the armed opposition was optimistic to occupy a large part of the country, but they were suppressed in every corner and nook of the country,” he said.
He added that anyone who picks up gun against the government and people is the enemy of the nation.
“People welcome those militants who leave conflict and put down their guns,” he stated
Acting Director of the National Directorate of Security Mohammad Massoom Stanekzai claimed that terrorist groups were supported by neighboring countries.
“Despite the victories, security organs face many challenges which requires unity in the security organizations,” he said
He termed assistance of the jihadi and political leaders important, asking Ulema and jihadi leaders to support their security forces against armed insurgents.
Recently president Ghani introduced Massoom Stanekzai and Abdullah Habibi as caretakers for the national directorate of security and the defense ministry.
Some security analysts believe that political deference between the two leaders resulted to insecurities in the country.
