AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan Consul General in Peshawar, Abdul Waheed Poyan, said that direct contacts between Afghanistan and Pakistan is essential to resolve the outstanding challenges and defuse tension between the two neighboring countries.
Addressing a seminar, organized by Pak-Afghan People’s Forum in Peshawar the other day, he said that direct contacts between the two countries are also a prerequisite to eliminate extremism and terrorism.
Poyan said that Afghanistan wanted brotherly relations with all neighboring countries, especially Pakistan. “However, we have to bridge the trust deficit between Afghanistan and Pakistan without any delay.”
Without taking any name, he furthered that foreign forces have imposed war on both Afghanistan and Pakistan which created hatred and mistrust among people of the two neighboring countries. The consul general said that the two countries were capable of resolving the existing problems in an efficient manner, adding that cordial ties between Kabul and Islamabad were essential for durable peace and stability in the entire region.
He said that Afghan government is doing its best to promote better relations with all stakeholders in Afghanistan and Pakistan aimed at restoring peace in the region.
Poyan said that the two countries were tied with strong relations due to their common languages, religion, traditions and culture. He said that tension between Kabul and Islamabad had affected trade and commerce.
According to Dawn, other speakers also stressed the need for establishing better relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
They said that joint efforts were must for bringing sustainable peace and development to the region and coping with common challenges.
The speakers said that relations between the people Pakistan and Afghanistan were essential for future of the entire region to restore peace in the region. They said that it was duty of the leadership of both the countries to play effective role in improving diplomatic ties between both the countries.
