By Akhtar M. Nikzad-KABUL: Head of Hezb-e Jamiat-e Islami asked the government to hold the Constitutional Loya Jirga to bring amendments in the Constitution to regulate the political formation of the government.
Salahuddin Rabbani, Head of Jamiat-e Islami party in a press conference on Saturday said that according to the political agreement in the NUG, the most fundamental tenure of both leaders was to hold Loya Jirga to bring amendments in the constitutional and specify the prime minister position.
“It has been more than one year from inauguration of the NUG, but still no determination has been seen in the government to hold the national consensus for amendment of the constitution,” Rabbani said.
According to the political agreement, the NUG was obligated to hold the Constitutional Loya Jirga within next two years to specify the prime minister position.
Bringing reforms and adjustments in electoral commissions and laws were another important issue emphasized by both political leaders in the agreement.
“Unfortunately in the last one and half year, the NUG did not hpld loya jirga, and failed to bring reforms in the electoral commissions and laws to ensure the transparency of the parliamentary and district council elections in the country,” he asserted.
He asked President Ashraf Ghani and chief executive Abdullah Abdullah to apply their vows for holding the Constitutional Loy Jirga and bring basic reforms in the electoral commissions and laws.
“Jamiat-e Islami party seriously demands the NUG to take practical measures for Constitutional Loy Jirga and resolve the political formation of the current government as soon as passable,” he reckoned.
Jamiat-e Islami party shows reaction against postponement of the Constitutional Loy Jirga when government inked a peace agreement with Hezb-e Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
So far, Jamiat-e Islami has played significant role in the NUG and Abdullah is one of the important members of this party.
Some political analysts said that finalizing peace talks and singing political agreement with Hezb-e Islami creates concerns for Jamiat-e Islami party. And they believed joining Hekmatyar with NUG in the current occasion would influence the political agreement of the national unity government.
