AT-KABUL: At least 40 Taliban insurgents were killed and 18 others wounded in different crackdowns with past 24 hours, said Ministry of Defence on Wednesday.
In a press release issued here, the ministry said that Afghan security forces had conducted operations against insurgents in different areas of Kunar, Paktia, Paktika, Ghazni, Khost, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Baghlan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Kunduz and Helmand provinces, in which 40 militants were killed and 18 others received injuries.
However, eight Afghan soldiers were also killed in the operation, the statement lamented.
The Afghan National Army forces are always stand ready for all kind of deviation and with all force to maintain security and comfort for the people of the country, the statement furthered.
Insurgent groups, including the Taliban, who may have lost more fighters during operation have not commented into the matter.
