By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Chief Executive Office on Thursday said that five of main perpetrators who were involved in kidnapping and killing of passengers in Kunduz province were arrested while the search for others is continued.
Armed Taliban stopped busses and kidnapped over 200 people on Kabul-Kunduz Highway on early Tuesday. The militants killed 12 people and released others, leaving eight in captivity.
“One group leader along with his four comrades was arrested by Afghan security forces. They were involved in kidnapping and killing of the passengers,” said Chief Executive Office’s Deputy Spokesman Javid Faisal.
He said that that the group leader and his accomplices were arrested in an operation on Wednesday night. The operation is continued to arrest all those insurgents who were involved in the incident.
“Afghan government is willing to make peace with those who want peace, but those insurgents who are kidnapping and killing people are enemies of Afghanistan,” he added.
The deputy spokesman said that killed passengers were innocent civilian. “Therefore, people shall cooperate with the government in order to eliminate terrorists and insurgents in the country.”
Spokesman to the Ministry of Defense, General Dawlat Waziri, said that still eight passengers are in the captivity of the Taliban, but operation is in underway to free them.
He said that Afghan forces are running the operation carefully in order to secure safe release of the hostages.
