AT-KABUL: An Afghan parliamentarian, Sher Wali Wardak, was “martyred” and 11 other people were injured in an explosion Sunday afternoon in Kabul city, officials confirmed.
Wardak, who was representing Kabul province in Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of the parliament, was first injured and then died of wounds, Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the ministry of interior said in a statement.
Another 11 people including his bodyguards were also injured in the blast that took place near to his house in 5th Police District in western part of Kabul city.
Police and other related security organs have been directed to fully investigate the blast that “martyred” the politician, the spokesman said.
The young MP was brother of Farouq Wardak, a well-known politician and former education minister under Ex-president, Hamid Karzai.
No militant group, including Taliban, still claimed responsibility for the blast.
