AT-KABUL: The Afghan security forces rescued Sunday 70 security forces trapped in Taliban’s siege in Faryab province, provincial official said.
“The rescued Afghan security forces had been in the Taliban siege from the past 13 days in Almar district of the province,” provincial police chief Sayed Aqa Andarabi said.
In addition to that, 30 villages were also cleared of insurgents during rescue operation, he added.
Without giving exact information, he said that the militants sustained huge casualties during operation.
“Fortunately, no security and civilians losses were reported during operation.”
Despite several military operation conducted, Almar district of the province still remained insecure area.
Earlier, the security forces rescued more than 100 policemen from Taliban siege in the Baghlan-i-Markazi district of northern Baghlan province.
These soldiers were under Taliban siege for 15 days in Alwuddin and Mangalhai localities of the district.
Abdul Rashed Bashir, Acting Deputy Chief, said in that time that Taliban insurgents blew up Ab Qol Bridge and closed all roads leading to the area where the Afghan forces were under siege.
