AT-KABUL: An Afghan border policeman was “martyred” and five others were wounded after heavy clashes occurred between Afghan border police and Pakistani forces in Torkham gate of eastern Nangarhar last night, said officials.
“Clashes started between Afghan and Pakistani forces while Pakistani militiamen struggled to build a gate inverse to all international law beyond the specified point in Afghanistan soil,” said Nangarhar provincial Spokesman Atullah Khogyani.
He said that in first Afghan forces attempted to solve the problem orally, but Pakistani militant refused to accept, thus it yielded at armed clashes in Torkham.
The fight started at 9:00pm and continued for nearly two hours, he added.
“Unfortunately one border police was martyred and five others were wounded in the incident”, he noted.
There are reports that Pakistani militiamen also sustain casualties, but no exact figures are in hand.
This is not the first time that Pakistani militiamen violate borders and international law limitation, often Pakistani forces tried to build installations and gates beyond specified points between two countries in Afghanistan soil. Recently Pakistani forces had built border crossing facilities in Angoor Ada of southeastern area in Afghanistan territory, which caused tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
