AT-KABUL: Armed militants today have kidnapped nearly 100 passengers from Herat-Kandahar highway in southwestern Helmand province, officials said.
The kidnapping took place in Grishk district of Helmand province today early in the morning and the passengers have been taken toward unknown direction, Helmand Police chief, Agha Noor Kintooz said.
At least passengers of four buses and cars have been among the kidnapped passengers for which the security forces launched a search operation.
Security forces launched rescue operation in the area and so far only 25 passengers are remained in Taliban captivity and remained people have been rescued, officials said.
Helmand is among the volatile provinces of the country where the Taliban groups are actively operating in a number of its districts.
