AT-KABUL: Afghan security forces with support of the local militiamen, had killed at least 14 Taliban insurgents in Gurzaiwan district of Faryab province, local official said on Friday.
“Around hundreds of Taliban insurgents in the past two conducted a complex attacks on Afghan security and public uprising force [pro-government militia] in the district,” Provincial Police Chief Sayed Aqa Andrabi said.
He added that with the deploying of fresh local police and resistance of public uprising force, 14 Taliban insurgents were killed. “The Taliban militants were driven out from the district. The insurgents suffered heavy casualties. Key Taliban leaders including, Faizullah, Qari Yousifullah and Qari Atiqullah were among the killed Taliban,” he said, adding that five others received bullet injuries.
He said that three public uprising members were also killed and two others wounded in the attack.
In the past, Talban insurgents brutally murdered two public uprising members in northern Baghlan province by gouging their eyes and slitting their nose and ears. The incident took place in the restive Burka district where anti-government armed militants are actively operating.
Earlier, eleven anti-Taliban uprising members were killed and six others wounded after the insurgents group attacked center of the pro-government militia in southern Ghazni province.
The Taliban attacked center of the uprising movement in Qal-e-Gardezi area of Andar district, provincial governor spokesman Shafiq Nang told that time.
He added that shortly after the attack Afghan security force reached the area to support the militiamen surrounded by the militants. Seven Taliban were killed and four others injured in the clash between security forces and insurgents.
