AT-KABUL: Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock reported unprecedented increase in honey production in 2015.
“Around 1,864,500kg honey was produced last year, which reveals enough increasing across the country comparing with the year before,” it said in a statement.
It said that currently 23,700 beekeepers including 652 women working in the frame of 58 cooperatives. 10 union of beekeeping are also active and operate for arrangement of honey producing throughout the country.
Also most of beekeepers are working individually and producing honey in different provinces across the country, statement noted.
Ministry of Agriculture distributed 237,000 boxes for beekeepers across the country.
There are one million boxes of beekeeping and the climate and air condition is a good opportunity for beekeeping and producing of honey.
The ministry exerts utmost efforts to help beekeepers through training programs and providing equipment across the country.
Beekeeping and honey producing is a good source of incomes for farmers, thus MAIL will strive hard to expand the culture of beekeeping all over the country.
At the present farmers are involved in beekeeping and producing honey in 30 provinces, mostly in Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Logar, Paktia and Herat provinces.
