AT-KABUL: At least 36 insurgents loyal to the Islamic State or Daesh were killed in eastern Nangarhar province within past 24 hours, Ministry of Defense said on Friday.
In a press release issued here, the Ministry of Defense, said that Afghan security forces have killed 36 Daesh fighters in a military operation carried out in Kot, Achin and Haskamina districts of the province. Afghan security forces also received air support during the operation.
Afghan and foreign forces accelerated ground and air operations to suppress Daesh fighters across the country.
Daesh fighters are on the run to save their skin after Afghan security forces launched large-scale operation against them. On Wednesday, Afghan intelligence operatives detained a key member of the Daesh group who was making bombs in Nangarhar province.
The terrorist was identified as Azizullah and was operating as explosives expert of militants loyal to Daesh, the defense ministry said.
Last week, a top Daesh commander Saad Emarati was killed in a gunfight with Afghan security forces in Sarai Bazar area of Kot district.
The ‘Voice of Caliphate’ radio station of the Islamic State was destroyed in a drone strike in the province.
This is the second Daesh radio station destroyed in drone strike in the Mohmand Dara area of Achin district, provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogianai said.
The station was broadcasting illegally across Nangarhar, spreading the group’s extremist messages and issuing threats to the people and governmental officials in the provincial capital, Jalalabad.
