Taliban publicly execute woman in Sar-e-Pul

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban insurgents have publicly executed a 19-year-old woman in Sar-e-Pul province, local officials said, adding that she had run away from her in-laws house due to family problems.

Provincial spokesman Zabihullah Amani said that the incident took place Monday in the Kohistant district.

“She was also beaten by her husband,” Amani said.

The victim was identified as Azada who was shot dead by her brother and some Taliban militants, according to the official.

He said the woman had spent two months in the provincial shelter and agreed to reunite with her husband’s family after her brother assured for her safety.

“But she was shot dead on charges of escaping home.”

Afghanistan is reported the worst place for women with violence against women is escalating.

Recently a man mutilated his pregnant wife’s genitals leading her to lose her unborn baby and nearly beat her to death.

The victim, who is in her 20s, said her husband launched the vile attack with a big wooden stick, cut her hair with scissors before shaving parts of her head. She said his mother and his sister helped him to tie her up with rope and then beat her.

The victim has said that she does not know the reason for the horrific attack, but reports of violence against women in the country are rising.

The police commander of Takhar, Noor Muhammad Hakimi, said the accused is on the run. Provincial police spokesman, Abdul Khalil Aseer said identified her husband as Sarbaland and he is on the run now.

Another one is when an Afghan cleric, Mohammad Karim, who is believed to be in his sixties, was detained after marrying a six years old girl. He told officials that the girl has been given to him as a ‘religious offering’ by her father. He is in custody in the central Ghor province.

Head of the Women Affairs Department in Ghor province, Massom Anwari, said: “This girl does not speak, but only repeats one thing—“I am afraid of this man.”

The forced marriage of this innocent kid sent shockwaves across the country as well as globally after the issue has been widely shared in domestic and international media. It is a clear indication of growing violence against women and forced child marriages in the country.
