AT-KABUL: Eighty-two Taliban fighters were killed and 64 others were wounded in different crackdowns within the past 24 hours, security officials said Tuesday.
In a press release, Ministry of Defense said the national army with the cooperation of the national police and the national directorate of security, conducted operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Nooristan, Logar, Ghazni, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Kandahar, Farah, Ghor, Balkh, Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan, Takhar, Kunduz and Helmand provinces.
“In these operations, 85 rebels were killed and 64 others were injured,” the press release said.
Afghan forces also arrested 12 insurgents and handed over to judicial organs for further inquiry.
The national army discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well, according to the statement.
“Unfortunately seven army soldiers were killed in the operations as well.”
On the other hand, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said its operatives arrested three fighters loyal to Daesh in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province.
The detained Daesh fighter identified as Abdul Malek, Hazratudin and Abdul Qayom, who were involved in subversive activities in Achin district of Nangarhar, added the statement.
