AT-KABUL: A commander of Taliban insurgents was detained by Afghan security forces in northern Kunduz province, ministry of interior said Tuesday in a statement.
The statement added the detained Taliban insurgent commander was identified as Faizullah who was leading the special forces of the Taliban insurgents was arrested during a clash with security forces in Chardara district of province.
The Taliban insurgents group has not commented regarding the report.
Numerous senior Taliban commanders have been killed or detained by the Afghan forces since the group announced its spring offensive earlier in April this year.
The shadow district governor of the group for Imam Sahib was killed during an operation in this province last week.
The Taliban militants intensified attacks in Kunduz after announcing its spring offensive with an aim to capture some of the key districts but the attacks were repulsed by the Afghan forces.
Separately 13 insurgents killed in a different operations lunched by Afghan national police in a past 24 hours ministry of interior said in a statement.
“The operations were conducted in Paktiya, Logar, Ghazni, Jowzjan, Herat, Kapisa, Baghlan, Khost, Zabul, Kunduz, Nooristan and Ghor provinces, as a result 13 Taliban insurgents were killed and 16 other were arrested,” statement said.
It added Afghan national police during these operations discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition.
The ministry of interior affairs appreciates the Afghan National Police operations to eliminate the terrorists’ sanctuaries and is a good step toward improving the security and stability.
