AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The United States Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday said that Afghanistan is continued to make progress in order to gain more democratic and secure future.
“We stand with you as you honor your many achievements, and we salute your courage, your hard work and your commitment to build on them in the years ahead,” Kerry said in his message on Afghanistan’s 97th Independence Day.
“I extend congratulations to the Afghans and best wishes to the people and the government of Afghanistan on behalf of President Obama and the American people on the occasion of Afghanistan’s 97th anniversary of independence,” he said.
Kerry further went on to say, “Despite the many challenges Afghanistan has faced and the many sacrifices endured, there is much to celebrate. The Afghan people have made tremendous strides over the last 15 years, including significant improvements in education, health, infrastructure, women’s rights, economic opportunities, and media freedom.”
“Our commitment to the Afghan people is strong, and we look forward to strengthening the bonds of friendship between our nations,” Kerry said.
The support of the US is coming after the chief executive of the National Unity Government recently termed President Ghani unfit for the office and also criticized the president for what he called reluctance to address national issues.
However, the Presidential Palace showed reaction over Abdullah’s remark, saying that his remark was against the spirit of governance.
To ease tension between the leaders of the NUG, on Thursday President Ghani met CEO Abdullah Abdullah where they discussed the disputed issues.
Meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, recommendations by the chief executive will be assessed at the next meeting, Deputy Presidential Spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi said.
