KABUL: Georgia’s newly appointed Defense Minister, Leyan Izoriahas paid a visit to Afghanistan on Monday, where he held meetings with Afghan officials and Georgian soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.
“For my first international visit I purposefully came to Afghanistan as I wanted to thank our brave men for the work they do here,” the minister said.
He added that the Georgia’s trooper lives associated with huge risk and danger in hottest spots, Afghanistan.
He also praised the professionalism and bravery of Georgian officers and stressed his country has made a valuable contribution to international security.
“We are champions in fighting terrorism as we are fighting for world peace” Izoria said.
The minister pledged the government would put weight behind all Georgian soldiers who served at home and abroad.
Georgia’s soldiers who are on a peacekeeping and security mission serving alongside NATO and EU troops in the country.
Georgia has participated in peacekeeping missions since 1999. Several thousand Georgian servicemen have served in missions in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
