AT-KABUL: The Work on the destroyed electricity cables began in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said Saturday, adding that people would be able to enjoy electricity soon.
“The power problem in Nangarhar will be solved by technical team in hard cooperation of locality officials and tribal elders,” said a statement issued by Nangarhar provincial press office.
Technical teams along with Laghman’s Breshna team reached in Badpekh district to repair the damaged cables, the statement added.
Electricity cables were reportedly damaged by Taliban fighters in Badpakh district of Laghman province some two weeks ago, depriving people in Laghman and Nangarhar of electricity.
Earlier, the Breshna power supply company had said that the security was not provided for its technical team to go to the area.
It said that it would exert utmost efforts to repair the damaged cables through cooperation of locality people.
Likewise, civil society activists warned that if the power was not reconnected until Saturday, they would close government offices in Nangarhar and Laghman.
It is pertained to mention that Taliban had cut power cables in Baghalan last year, which do to challenge most part of capital had no electricity for weeks.
