AT-KABUL: At least 178 insurgents were killed and 94 others wounded in different operations lunched by the Afghan security forces across the county within past 24 hours, security officials said on Sunday.
In a press release, the defense ministry said that the national army in collaboration with the national police and national directorate of security, conducted a clearance operation against the insurgents in different districts of Nangarhar, Kunar, Ghazni, Paktia, Logar, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Farah, Ghor, Badghis, Herat, Kunduz, Baghlan, Faryab and Helmand provinces.
In Helmand, some 86 Taliban fighters were killed by Afghan forces during operations.
“In these operations, 178 insurgents including 34 Daesh terrorists were killed and 94 others injured,” the statement said.
Separately, At least five people including three policemen were wounded in a bomb blast in eastern province of Nangarhar, local official said.
“The explosion took place in the Abdul Haq Mena in the outskirts of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, when their vehicle hit the improvised explosive device,” the provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said.
According to another source, the target of the explosion has yet to be identified as the police car was struck by the bomb shortly after convey of a public upraising commander Haji Hayat Khan crossed the road.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
This comes as Saturday; at least two U.S. service members were also wounded when their vehicle struck a roadside mine while they were conducting a patrol near the airport on the outskirts of Jalalabad city.
Elsewhere, five insurgents were arrested during the operations, according to the statement.
“Unfortunately, 18 soldiers were also killed during clashes with the Taliban.”
