AT-KABUL: Taliban insurgents retreated from Farah city, the capital of the province with the same name when air strikes targeted them, security officials said Monday.
Provincial police spokesman, Ibal Bayer, said that the Taliban insurgents came under attack from four different directions late Sunday which at least 27 insurgents were killed.
In the meantime, Raz Mohammad Oryakhil, a military commander from 207 Zafar Military Corps believes that “Farah city would not collapse to the insurgents and the security forces would clear the district from presence of militants soon.”
Oryakhil said reinforcement troops have been arrived from Herat, Badghis and Kabul provinces and “soon a large-scale military clearance operation would be launched in the province.”
He said the clashes are going on, Taliban suffered heavy casualties during the operations.
However, reports suggest that businesses and shops are still closed and residents are concerned about the situation.
The Taliban launched a coordinated attack on the outskirts of Farah city last week, which has since resulted in the displacement of hundreds of local residents.
