AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan security forces under command of the First Vice-President Abdul Rashid Dostum have recaptured Ghormach district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said.
The district was fled to the Taliban on October 11, where after more than 18 days Afghan security forces succeeded to resize the district.
After security deterioration, Gen. Dostum decided to carry out operation against militants. Few days later, he arrived in Faryab to lead operation in order to free the district from the control of Taliban insurgents.
Habib Rahman Qoyash, an official at Dostum media office, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the operation under command of first vice-president was launched Thursday morning and ended with retaking control of Ghormach around 2pm.
The operation was jointly launched by air and ground forces who inflicted heavy casualties on the militants, he said, adding that an Afghan National Army (ANA) battalion that lost contact with the center over the past few days was reconnected.
Confirming the news, provincial police spokesman, Abdul Karim Yorish said that Afghan security forces are currently stationed in the district.
“Currently, security forces are busy in searching suspected houses.”
He furthered that security forces exercise extreme caution during operation to prevent casualties due to bombs plantation by militants.
However, the Taliban insurgents have not said anything so far.
