AT-KABUL: A key commander of the Taliban insurgents was killed in clash with Afghan security forces in north-eastern Kapisa province, local official said on Monday.
The provincial governor spokesman, Qais Qaderi said that Taliban insurgents attacked police checkpoints in the Tagab and Alasay districts, in which Taliban commander along with his accompanies were killed.
Without elaborating the number of insurgents killed in the attack, he said that three militants were also wounded in the attack.
“The Taliban commander was identified as Qari Emal” he said, adding that killed commander was involved in different terrorist activities in the province.
“There were no civilian or security forces casualties in the clashes,” he said.
Tagab and Alsay are among insecure provinces in north-eastern of the country, where armed militants are actively operating there.
Separately, at least nine militant loyal to the Islamic State (IS), or known as Daesh terrorists were killed in operations in eastern Nangarhar province.
The provincial government media office in a statement, said at least four terrorists were killed during an operation by the security forces in Pacher Agam district.
In the meantime, the ministry of defense in a statement said, at least 5 militants were killed during an airstrike in the same district.
It added the airstrikes targeted a compound belonged to the Daesh militants in the province.
This comes as the local officials said Saturday at least 54 loyalists of the terror group were killed during a large scale operation launched in this province.
Nangarhar is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern of the country where both the Taliban insurgents and militants loyal to Daesh terrorists are actively operating.
