AT-KABUL: At least ten fighters of the Islamic State (IS) also known as Daesh, were killed and four others wounded in a US drone strike in eastern Nangarhar province, local officials said Tuesday.
The provincial governor spokesman, Ataullah Khogyani said that the drone was targeted the hideouts of Daesh militants in the Pachiragam district late Monday.
There were no civilian casualties in the strike, he added.
He said that 13 villages had been cleared of insurgents as a result of operations last week.
Separately, at least 21 Taliban insurgents including a commander were killed in operation in southern Helmand province, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.
It added that the operation was launched a week ago in Lashkar Gah city, to clear the city from insurgents.
“The commander was identified as Nazim was killed in clash with security forces,” the statement said.
It stated ground troops also received air support during the operation and advancing in Bolan area of the city; however, the statement did not provide more details on the operation.
The operation comes after insurgents recently raised their attacks around Lashkar Gah city.
