By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Civil Society Joint Working Group (CSJWG) on Sunday strongly condemned killing of innocent civilians in northern Kunduz province during the US air strike, calling on the government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The bombardment was said targeted Taliban in Boze Kandahari area of Kuduz on 3rd November, which led to the death of at least 33 civilians including children and women and injuries of 25 others is highly condemnable and shows contempt for human lives, said CSJWG.
Civil activist called on the authorities to step up security for civilians in order to prevent civilian casualties during conflict in volatile provinces across the country.
“No one has the right to give impunity or forgive the perpetrators of civilian casualties, even if they are NATO or US forces,” Said Member of CSJWG Khalil Raoufi.
He said that CSJWG strongly denouncing civilians killing under any title and urged the government to step up efforts and protect civilians.
CSJWG expressing deep concern over mounting of civilian casualties, as recently UNAMA report revealed that civilian casualties increased unprecedentedly in the past six months of this year, he stated.
According to the report from January-June of 2016, 5166 civilian casualties, including 1606 dead and 3565 wounded has been recorded across the country.
CSJWG Kunduz Member Abdullah Rasouli said that killing and wounded of 60 civilians during airstrike in Kunduz is crime against humanity.
He alleged that likely US forces had bombing the area in order to take revenge of their two soldiers were killed in Kunduz.
He said that Afghan forces also neglected regarding protection of civilian in the province.
While, Taliban using as shield civilians, the government must run technically operation in order to reduce civilian casualties, he insisted.
Civil Activist Ahmad Shah Stanekzai said that misusing and taking as shield the civilians is common by Taliban during conflict, thus it is required of government to be prepared to prevent killing of civilians.
Taliban never respect any role, but killing of civilians at any condition is not justifiable, he noted.
Although the government failed to bring before justice the perpetrators of civilian casualties in the past years, but once again we call on government to prosecute cases of civilian cases seriously and bring culprits to justice, he underlined.
