AT-KABUL: The Taliban insurgents suffered heavy losses in operations launched by security forces in the eastern Paktika province, defense ministry claimed Sunday.
“Last week, dozens of Taliban insurgents under leadership of Bilal Zadran, the commander of the group attacked in Warmami, Wajah Khaw and Troy districts, but faced strong resistance by the security force,” the ministry said in a statement.
It added that “at least 105” Taliban insurgents including three commanders were killed and 92 others wounded, while a number of them were arrested.
It is worth mentioning that Paktika has long border with Pakistan from where Taliban fighters enter the province, launching attacks against the army and police.
Separately, at least 15 insurgents were killed and 20 others wounded in different operations launched by the security forces within the past 24 hours across the county, security officials said on Sunday.
The national army with the cooperation of the national police and the national directorate of security operatives, conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Laghman, Logar, Khost, Paktia, Ghazni, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Badghis, Ghor, Farah, Faryab, Baghlan, Kunduz, and Helmand provinces, the defense ministry said.
In these operations, 15 insurgents were killed and 20 others injured, it said. According to statement nine insurgents arrested during the operation.
