AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: To attack a nearby Afghan Local Police (ALP) checkpoint, the Taliban insurgents have ordered closed a high school over the past one week in the capital of Logar province, officials said on Sunday.
Provincial education officials said that this has already affected hundreds of students.
Provincial education department spokesman, Mohammad Shahpoor Arab, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban had asked the school teachers to close the school because they intended to attack a nearby Afghan Local Police (ALP) checkpoint.
He added that the Taliban has instructed teachers and also the school students not to attend school till they (Taliban) seize the check post.
18 teachers are busy teaching students, he said, adding that around 700 student are currently enrolled in the school. “Efforts are underway to reopen the school.”
The school is located between an ALP post and the Taliban militants,” Pajhwok Afghan News quoted, Hajji Gulab, a resident of Dadukhel village in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.
“Police and Taliban often clash in the area, parents are also not interested in sending their children to the school in such a situation and now Taliban have warned against the school’s opening,” he said.
However, the Taliban group denied and said that their fighters had not created any problems ahead of school in any part of the country.
“The school is possibly closed by Taliban in order to prevent civilian casualties, but we will investigate about it,” Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Muhajid said.
As many as 308 educational centers exist in Logar, where 40, 0000 students including 50,000 girls are studying.
