AT-KABUL: At least 23 loyalists of Daesh terrorist group were killed in an airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province, security officials said Sunday.
The ministry of defense said in a statement that the airstrike was carried out in the Achin district late Saturday.
No further details were given regarding the strike and it is not clear the raid was conducted by Afghan air forces or the US warplanes.
However, provincial spokesman Attaullah Khoghyani, said 14 Daesh terrorists were killed in a US airstrike in Achin, and four others were killed in an operation lunched by the Afghan forces in the Pachiragam district.
No civilian casualties reported in the operation in the district.
The Daesh terrorist group has carried out some attacks in Pachiragam, killing innocent civilians and destroying their assets.
Recently, Afghan and foreign troops have increased operations against Daesh insurgents in the province.
Separately, a Taliban commander was arrested along with his six accompanies in an operation conducted by security forces in northern Kunduz province, local official said.
“The commander was identified as Belal, involved in different terrorist activities in the province including planting roadside mines,” provincial spokesman Mahfuzullah Akbari said.
However, he did not provide more details about the operation.
