AT-KABUL: A commander of Taliban insurgents was detained by Afghan security forces in eastern Nangarhar province, security officials said Tuesday.
Provincial police chief said the commander was identified as Ghulam Akbar who is originally a resident of Rodat district.
“He was expert for making mines and others explosives devices and was arrested during an operation in the province,” the statement said.
It added that the security forces confiscated a suicide bombing vest and various other types of explosives from the house of the detained insurgents.
It furthered that Akbar was previously wounded in a premature explosion and resumed his operations to manufacture improvised explosive devices after he recovered.
He is currently in the custody and investigation is underway by the security forces, the statement noted.
The Taliban insurgents frequently use homemade improvised explosive devices to target the security forces and government officials and employees. However, in majority of such attacks, the ordinary civilians are targeted as the Taliban group is accused of causing the majority of civilian casualties.
