AT-KABUL: The Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) held its first meeting Monday in Kabul co-chaired by finance minister Eklil Hakimi and Shubham Chaudhuri, country director for the World Bank.
“The meeting discussed aligning the support provided through the ARTF based on development objectives of the Afghanistan National Peace and Development Framework,” a statement from the finance ministry said.
Attorney-General Farid Hamidi, ambassadors and heads of development cooperation from leading 19 donor countries participated in the meeting.
Hakimi emphasized on the importance of the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund and said: “The Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund provides important financial and technical assistance to Afghanistan national priority programs such as the citizen’s charter, primary health care, basic education, infrastructure development, governance and public finance reforms.”
He thanked all development partners for their commitments of support through the ARTF from 2015 to 2017 to implement various national programs.
He called on donors to work closely with the government to implement the ANPDF and allocate sufficient resources through the ARTF Financing Strategy 2018-2020.
Attorney General Hamidi provided information regarding the activities and performances of Center for Justice and Anti-Corruption (CJAC) and its future plans to the participants.
The World Bank Country Director said: “Most of the Afghanistan’s development budget is financed by its’ international partners, and the ARTF have had a key role in during the last 15 years pooled on-budget financing in direct support of the government’s priorities.”
“With development financing becoming constrained globally, we expect the government and international partners to provide their finance through the ARTF, to stimulate in private investment and job creation.”
