AT-KABUL: At least thirty-one Taliban militants were killed in a series of airstrikes carried out by the Afghan and foreign air forces in southern Helmand province, officials said Sunday.
Provincial government media office said in a statement that the strikes were conducted in the provincial capital city of Lashkar Gah as well as Garmsir and Nad-e-Ali districts.
The statement added that 11 insurgents were killed in Bolan Mandawi area of Lashkar Gah and at least three others were wounded in an airstrike carried out by foreign forces.
Meanwhile, eight Taliban militants were killed and six others were sustained deep injuries during a separate operation launched by the Afghan security forces in Nad-e-Ali district.
According to the provincial government, several areas were cleared during the recent operations in Nad-e-Ali and dozens of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were defused.
The statement also furthered that twelve insurgents including a local leader of the group known as Mullah Ewaz were killed in an airstrike carried out by the foreign forces in Hussain Abad area of Garmsir district.
A vehicle belonged to the militants was also destroyed after it was hit by the airstrike, the statement said.
