AT-KABUL: Pakistan’s new ambassador to United States, Aizaz Chaudhry has said that closure of crossing points with Afghanistan is a temporary decision which is a part of counter-terrorism strategy to block infiltration of terrorists.
He said: “This is border management, necessary to combat terrorists.”
Speaking to reporters in Washington D.C., Chaudhry called on Kabul’s government to jointly manage the British-era Durand Line to put an end to cross-border infiltration.
He added the terrorists, who had taken shelter into Afghanistan after military operation Zarb-i-Azb in North Waziristan are coming back to Pakistan and attack schools, hospitals and shrines.
He was hopeful regarding the recent tripartite meeting between Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz and Afghan National Security Adviser, Hanif Atmar in London would lead to closer coordination between the two countries.
Moreover, he said that there is no indication in US, declaring Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism, as both countries are willing to continue their longstanding relationship.
Chaudhry claimed that Pakistan had destroyed safe sanctuaries of terrorists in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. But he remained silent over the Haqqani terrorist network which had been plotting terrorism and destruction inside Afghanistan and freely roaming on Pakistan’s soil.
