AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 16 Taliban militants have been killed and nine others sustained heavy injuries in an air raid carried out by Afghan forces in Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Monday.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasoul Zazai, spokesman for 215th Maiwand military corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Afghan air force has targeted a group of Taliban who were planning attacks against security forces.
Zazai added, “16 militants were killed and nine others wounded and many weapons and ammunition were destroyed during the airstrike.”
Akhtar Mohammad, a resident of Nad Ali said, “the security forces conducted an airstrike late on Monday which resulted in heavy casualties on the part of Taliban, but however, he doesn’t’ had information of exact number of insurgents killed in the operation.
Moreover, Zazai claimed that four Taliban militants have been killed in a separate operation in Sangin district of Helmand. The Taliban insurgent groups have not commented into the matter yet.
However, the Taliban’s spokesperson Qari Yousaf Ahmadi has dropped a public message on his facebook account, claiming that nine security forces personnel have lost their lives in a fight with Taliban in Qari Posty area of Nad Ali district.
Helmand is insecure province in which Taliban insurgents are at large there. The Taliban insurgents had been plotting terrorist and destructive activities against the civil and military installations and even target civilian population in some districts of the province. The provincial governor, Hayatullah Hayat has already said that Iran and Pakistan are continuously supporting insurgency in the province, aimed at preventing the construction of Kajaki dame in Helmand and Kamal Khan dame in Nimruz. However, the Afghan security forces are bravely and successfully chasing insurgency in the province.
