By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday said that 262 police personal including high ranking officers were arrested over different charges and handed over to judiciary organs for inquiry in the past one year (1395 solar year).
“ 262 personal of police including 15 high ranking officers were arrested on the charge of different crimes including neglect, misusing authority and corruption and handed over to judiciary organs for interrogation,” Said Acting Director for Anti-Corruption Department of MoI Akramullah.
He said that the arrest of mentioned figures aimed to boost up reforms in police crew.
He stated that 179 policemen were changed or punished due to breaching of duty regulation.
He said that the cases of corruption and violation of regulation in police crew decreased in 1395 as compared to two previous years.
Acting Spokesman for MoI Najeeb Danish said that Anti-Corruption Department has succeeded to prevent smuggling of 1500 tons of precious stones in the country in the past one year.
He said that police discovered and confiscated over two million fake dollars.
Number of Sim boxes used illegally discovered and seized as well, he noted.
He said that 143 corruption cases are under operative investigation of Anti-Corruption Department.
MoI informed of reformation and combat drive against corruption in police crew, while recently Head of the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), John Sopko during his speech at Duke University said that corruption and mismanagement is the main factor behind failure of security forces in Afghanistan.
