AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Afghan security forces have started a large-scale clearance operation against militants to re-take the Nawa district of Helmand province after Taliban militants took control of the area nine months ago, local officials said on Saturday.
Omar Zowak, the provincial governor’s spokesperson said, the offensive kicked off on Saturday morning, adding, security forces are moving forward from three different directions in a bid to capture or kill all the insurgents.
He said, till the moment, 12 Taliban militants have been killed as a result of the fresh military offensive and two police personnel also sustained injuries.
District ‘Nawa’ is situated at a distance of 15km from Lashkargah, capital city of Helmand and it fell down nine months ago where the locals were forced to face barbarism and cruelties by the Taliban insurgents. Security Forces have taken an initiative of great importance to be expended to other volatile areas of the province in order to establish comfortable peace and stability in the province which would pay way to speed up the construction work of Kajaki dam. However, the successful military operations against militants must be followed by military installations across the province to leave no space for terrorism and militancy.
