By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: At least 31 people were killed and over 40 others wounded in a car bomb attack in the west part of Kabul city Monday morning, security officials said.
Deputy Spokesman for Ministry of Interior Najeeb Danish said that “24 people were killed and 42 others wounded, after a car bomber detonated in PD 3 in west part of Kabul city at around 6:50am.”
He said that incident took place on the main road near Zawal Private Institute of Higher Education and at the scene a vehicle belonged to Ministry of Mines was destroyed as well, thus, to date the target of the attacker is not clear.
Meanwhile, Baz Mohammad Shirzad, Casualty Coordinator for Ministry of Public Health said that killed toll increased to 31 including three women.
He said that dead bodies of 15 people burnt in the incident, which till date eight were identified
Second Deputy for Chief Executive Officer, Mohammad Mohaqiq’s house is also close to the blast site. Deputy Spokesman for CEO office Maisam Omid said that the explosion took place in front of check post Mohaqiq guards.
He said that one guard was also wounded.
He said that initial investigation show that the target was Mohaqiq‘s house.
Three private vehicles and 15 shops also destroyed in the area, he added.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the attack and targeting of civilian in Kabul city.
President Ghani said that targeting of civilians is a clear prove for weakness of Taliban.
Ministry of Interior in a statement also strongly denounced the attack over civilian. It said that such attacks show that Afghan enemies never mess any opportunity and never obey any moral regulation to kill Afghan innocent people.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement claimed responsibility for the attack.
He said that a Taliban suicide bomber by using a corolla vehicle full of explosive targeted two mini buses carrying governmental intelligence staff.
