AT-KABUL: Counter Narcotics Deputy Office of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday said that 874 drug smugglers have been arrested during operations carried out by Counter Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) within past four months.
A statement issued by the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC) said that MoI Deputy Minister for Narcotics, General Abdul Khalil Bakhtyar informed that they have conducted 764 operations to fight drug smuggling and drug production. “These operations carried out across the country in the last four months.”
According to GMIC, Bakhtyar in a press conference told newsmen that 874 drug smugglers have been arrested as result of these operations by CNPA. “140 of them are high level, 142 medium level and 578 others are small size smugglers.”
He added that 19 opium production factories have been destroyed and 116 ton drug including opium, heroin, hashish, morphine, alcohol, shisha, methamphetamine and henbanes have been seized during operations.
As per Bakhtyar, the seizure of opium is worth $292 million rate inside Afghanistan. In case of smuggling outside Afghanistan, it would worth $900 million which is an enormous loss to the smugglers.
He also delivered on the CNPA operations in the past four months in Kabul, the capital city, saying: “CNPA conducted 300 operations which resulted at seizure of 4.5 ton drugs, in which 364 people arrested including 18 high level smugglers and the rest retailers.”
He also said that in the past two days CNPA have seized 2.5 ton of alcohol in its operations.
