AT-KABUL: The Afghan security forces have retaken the control of Kohistan district of northern Faryab province last night (Tuesday night), after three days of being under wing of the Taliban insurgents.
“Afghan security and defense forces started retaken operation at 6:00pm local time—eventually, after three hours of battle, they (Afghan forces) captured the center of Kohistan district from Taliban insurgents,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Wednesday.
The ministry also informed of clearance operation that has been seriously going on in other parts of the district to perish militants. “The ongoing operation has been supporting by aerial forces,” the statement said, adding that so far 23 Taliban fighters were killed in Kohistan district.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) too confirmed the retaken of the district from Taliban insurgent’s control.
The MoI in a statement said that heavy casualties have been incurred to the Taliban insurgent during retaken operation.
It is worth mentioning that Kohistan, and Taywara districts of western Ghor province collapse to the Taliban in one day after clashes with Afghan security force. Kohistan retaken, however the fate of Taywara is still in looms. According to provincial officials, Taywara district fallen to the Taliban after the insurgents massively attached on the district that forced security force to tactically retreat.
The annoying news is that the Taliban insurgents killed dozens of doctors and patients after capturing Taywara district, and also torched district hospital. Provincial police spokesman, Mohammad Iqbal Nezami told Afghanistan Times that Taliban opened fire at local people during capturing Taywara district and killed 22 civilians, including doctors, patients and students.
He furthered that Taliban insurgents created horror situation in district as they (Taliban) torched houses of people cooperating with the government. The control of Taywara district has to regain just like Kohistan district of Faryab province, because the residents suffered a lot at hands of Taliban insurgents.
