AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Kabul-Kandahar highway has been closed for traffic on Tuesday due to ongoing fighting between the Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said.
The Maidan Wardak Governor’s Spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News the highway was blocked in Syedabad district after a violent clash erupted in the morning. He said fighting between the two sides continues and till the moment two Taliban militants were killed.
Jamal Ahmad, who was traveling from Kabul to southern Ghazni province, said he was forced to turn back to the central capital as a result of highway closure.
According to sources Taliban has warned the drivers of passenger vehicles not to use the highway.
Moreover, Gul Islam Syal, the Zabul governor’s spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News passenger buses had been off the highway since morning. He said that only small vehicles were moving between Ghazni and Zabul.
