AT-KABUL: Former President, Hamid Karzai, expressed sorrow and condolences over the death of Nancy H. Dupree, famous American archeologist who was working in Afghanistan for decades.
“Mrs. Dupree had greatly served in Afghanistan and had been working here for around 50 years along with her husband Luis Dupree on the ancient and historical relics and cultural ones,” Karzai said in a statement.
He said that Dupree shifted to Pakistan during the jihad years in Afghanistan, but returned after the freedom of Afghanistan and established the Afghanistan Information Sources Center at the Kabul University compound. “She also wrote some books that is a great service for Afghanistan.”
Karzai said that love for Afghanistan had kept Dupree able to live and work here despite being enough old.
He expressed deep condolences for the death of Dupree to her family, friends and co-workers, suggesting that she be buried in the Afghan soil.
