AT-KABUL: A number of Wolesi Jirga members have strongly opposed the new US strategy on Afghanistan and deployment of additional troops in the country.
The Members of Parliament in Monday’s session of Wolesi Jirga came hard over the US troops for their airstrikes, targeting civilians. They slammed the National Unity Government (NUG) for its suppressed role and urged the government not to tight lip over the US brutalities in the country. Furthermore, lawmakers claimed that the United States is following the policy of prolonging war in Afghanistan, adding, Washington has no plan for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan in a bid to put an end to the ongoing conflict. They also called on the government to take the nation into confidence regarding the latest development in US policies on Afghanistan. They laudably said that the new US strategy is not acceptable to them as it is based on genocide of Afghan people.
Moreover, the lawmakers rejected increase in number of US troops in Afghanistan and said, “If US wants to conclude and win war on terror, then it should strengthen the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.” They furthered, ‘peace and reconciliation’ is the milestone for winning ‘war on terror.’
They claimed that Afghanistan has not given any space to influence the US policies on Afghanistan and probably, the NUG has been deprived of the right to hold talks with Taliban.
