AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Four Taliban insurgents joined the peace process in northeastern Badakhshan province and handed over their weapons to the Disarmament of Illegal Arms Groups (DIAG), an official said on Monday.
Provincial Police Chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Khaleq Aqsai told Pajhwok Afghan News government doors continue to be opened for militant groups who want to renounce violence and join reconciliation process.
After joining the peace process, the former militants were given warm welcome and the government would strive to provide them with best job opportunities and other facilities of livelihood, he added.
Aqsai furthered the reconciled militants handed over four AK-47 Kalashnikovs and a pistol to security forces.
A member of the reconciled insurgents said they came to known the unfair and disastrous consequences of their armed struggles against their own people which forced them to join peace process.
Moreover, police handed over some weapons rounded up during separate operation to DIAG in a formal ceremony.
Police chief said taking control over illegal weapons helped prevented several violent incidents.
