AT-KABUL: The Afghan Air Force has mistakenly bombed its own Afghan forces on the ground in southwestern Helmand province and killed ten and injured nine others, officials told Afghanistan Times.
The airstrike was carried out today (Sunday) afternoon at around 5:00pm in Adam Khan area of Grishk district of Helmand province, where a ground and air campaign against militants is under for several past days, Gul Agha Muslim, a Provincial Council Member, told Afghanistan Times.
Ten security forces including local militia supported by government were killed and nine others were injured he said.
Abdul Majid Akhundzada, another provincial council member in the province said the strike was carried out while Afghan forces were busy in ground operation in the area.
Defense Ministry, spokesman, Gen. Dawlat Waziri confirmed the strike was carried out by Afghan air force and they were currently investigating the bombing.
